Background History
Established in 1962 under Decree-Law 1842 of 12/05/62, the old Faculty of Economic Sciences of Uberlândia is where the Institute of Economics and International Relations (IERI-UFU) had its start. The Department of Economics at UFU is where IERI-UFU got its start. With the Decree-Law of August 14, 1969, this institution was granted permission to function and eventually became a member of the University of Uberlândia. The Department of Economics and the Undergraduate Course in Economic Sciences emerged under the new organizational framework that was created when the University was federalized in 1978 (Decree-Law 6532 of 24/05/78).
Later advancements included the creation of the Postgraduate Program in Economics (PPGE-UFU), which was authorized by CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel) and featured the Master's and Doctorate courses in economics. Additionally, in August 2008, the UFU University Council authorized Resolution 24/2008, which established the Undergraduate Course in International Relations. The course officially started in March 2009.
After the Master's course in International Relations received approval and authorization from CAPES in December 2014, the Federal University of Uberlândia's Institute of Economics and International Relations launched the Postgraduate Program in International Relations (PPGRI-UFU) in 2015.
